Middle Level (Grades 5 - 8)
Religion
The fifth grade religion program continues to build on the student's relationship with Christ. The major emphasis of the year is the study of the Sacraments.
The sixth grade religion program focuses on the study of the Old Testament. We are fortunate to have our pastor visit the classroom to teach scripture-based classes on a weekly basis.
The seventh grade religion program explores the New Testament readings and the teachings of Christ. Our pastor also teaches seventh grade religion classes.
The eighth grade religion program focuses on the sacrament of Confirmation, The students will study why they are making Confirmation and what it means to be a Catholic.
Throughout these years the students are given opportunities to grow in their love of Christ and the Church through Mass, Prayer Services, Reconciliation, Stations of the Cross, and the Rosary.
Language Arts
The middle level Language Arts program includes instruction in Reading, Literature, English, Spelling, and Vocabulary Development.
The fifth and sixth grade Language Arts program continues to develop critical reading skills, with an emphasis on written and verbal communication skills.
The seventh and eighth grade Language Arts program is Literature-based, emphasizing the higher level thinking skills needed for high school.
During these years there is a great emphasis on becoming a better communicator in both written and verbal formats.
Math
The middle level fifth and sixth grade Math program allows the students to build upon the basic facts they have mastered in the elementary level and to apply them to real life challenges that surround them.
The seventh and eighth grade Math program consists of Pre-Algebra and Algebra I studies. Emphasis is placed on a strong foundation for future Math classes
Science
The middle level Science curriculum enables students to explore science concepts through inquiry, critical thinking, and investigation.
The fifth and sixth grade Science curriculum is a general science program encompassing Life Science, Physical Science, and Earth Science concepts.
The seventh grade curriculum emphasizes Life Science concepts. The students will complete several dissections as part of the Life Science curriculum.
The eighth grade curriculum explores the Physical Sciences. The students will investigate chemical and physical concepts.
The study of health and nutrition is incorporated into the Science curriculum.
Social Studies
The middle level Social Studies curriculum explores American and World History. Map skills, geography, and current events are part of each year's studies.
The fifth grade focuses on our nation's history from Colonial times to our country's Independence.
Sixth graders study our world and its various cultures.
Seventh graders continue the study of U.S. History from 1789-1899, along with Pennsylvania history
The eighth grade curriculum presents an overview of 20th Century U.S. History.
Spanish
Our middle-level Spanish teacher helps to create a strong understanding of cultural awareness. There is an emphasis on vocabulary, grammar, and developing conversational skills.
Music
The music curriculum focuses on various musical styles from diverse cultures. The students learn music theory and how culture and history influence music. Opportunities for performance are provided throughout the school year.
Computer
Computer class instruction focuses on computer awareness, computer literacy, and using the computer as a tool.
The students are taught to apply their knowledge in many basic areas, including keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets, and multimedia presentations,
Students use programs that teach logical thinking and problem-solving skills.
